Update 8/4/202 - Lyall Payne (Bletchley Hall Afghan Hounds, NZ) an avid breed researcher has kindly provided us with some additional information about Begum's owner -
Philip A Conne was a founder of Saks clothing, An ad man he convinced the Saks family to start up a mega store in NY first one and it all went uphill from there. Died in France was ill in final year and went to Europe to live (was Hungarian originally) married again in that last year. Body returned to US for interment. Had a medical science innovation award given out in his memory as late as the mid 50s despite his dying in 1927. Member of the Free & Accepted Masons) (Masonic Lodge). He had homes in Illinois and Manhattan (just as one of the early writers stated) besides he was the only Philip A (Adelhard) Conne in US history !! Died in Biarritz.
