There was an ommission in Lillan Goodman's chronology for the Kuhsan kennel, and I think it quite understandabe. Ms Goodman's chronology as you have seen on the previous pages goes as follows January 22, 1937
April 6, 1937
December 8, 1937
and then she mentions a litter whelped September 9, 1937
So, her chronology went out of sequence (Sep 37 followed Dec 37) which kind of adds to the confusion to hand. Right, having got that chronolgy issue out the way, let's go back to the important observation she made that Haifa Of Kuhsan is entered in the AKC stud book on two different dates (10-38 and 2-39) showing different dates of birth (9/37 and 12/38) and different parents.
Let's see if we can sort this out...
Below you will see the AKC registration details for the two litters 9/37 and 12/38. We notice that all the littermates in the 9/37 litter were registered in the 9-38 AKC stud book. so the 9/37 registrations look ok
AKC Double Registration Entry Summary of Registrations
1937/09/09 Litter
Farida Of Kuhsan A257559 9-38
Kali Of Kuhsan A257563 9-38
Ku Mari Of Kuhsan A257561 9-38
Phillipson Of Kuhsan A260531 9-38
Ranee of Kuhsan A257562 9-38
White Rajah Of Kuhsan A258343 9-38
Zara Of Kuhsan A257560 9-38
1937/12/08 Litter
Akbar Of Kuhsan A257556 9-38
Blue Bonnet Omar Of K A314491 5-39
Haifa Of Kuhsan A267614 10-38 and 2-39
Pyramid Of Kuhsan A262826 10-38
Raj Of Kuhsan A333046 8-39
Sonee Of Kuhsan A257558 9-38
Souriya Of Kuhsan A257557 9-38
Look at the 12/37 Litter registration numbers. Haifa of Kuhsan is A267614, thats several thousand numbers away from the series for the 9/37 litter (which is in the 257.000-260.000 range). So either Haifa was not part of that litter, or if he was, his registration was submitted a lot later and caused him to get an out of alignment number for the litter sequence. Haifa first appears in the 10-38 AKC stud book, if that was all we had then we might have supposed he was a late registration from the 9/37 litter?
However, if you also look at the 12/37 litter and their sequence numbers you will see that Akbar Of Kuhsan, Sonee of Kuhsan nd Souriya of Kuhsan all have registration numbers totally consistent with the 9/37 litter registrations, and these three Kuhsan hounds were registered in 9-38, the registration date for the 9/37 litter BUT these three kuhsan hounds are listed with the same parents and litter whelped 12/37. So now we have two inconsistencies. The original question over Haifa and now these other three.
In February 1939 the AKC stud book numbers were already in the 296.000 range, or above. So any dog, any breed, registered from Feb 39 onward would have to have had a number larger than 296.000. Two of the 12/37 litter (Blue Bonnet Omar Of Kuhsan and Raj Of Kuhsan registered after Feb 39 do in fact have numbers greater than 296.000. They were registered later than the rest of the litter in 5/39 and 8/39 respectively so they look to be ok.
Pyramid of Kuhsan (262836) looks to be good, Pyramid's number sequence issued in Oct 38 is above the series issued in Sept 38 and seems consistent with the larger number sequence three months later. IF Pyramids 10/38 registration details are correct, and we note that Haifa Of Kuhsan was registered in the same AKC edition 10/38 but with a number several thousand above Pyramid.
I can't explain the later registration 2-39 for Haifa other than to suggest that maybe R W Sampson, or whoever submitted that registration confused one of their other Afghan Hounds names/litter details and erroneously submitted a repeat but incorrect registration. Haifa was sold to Robert Van Deusen, but there is no record of any breeding by that owner, so we don't have any subsequent registration checks to help us.
I cautioned on a previous page about the AKC registration numbers NOT being absolute evidence of an error, because it was not unusual in those days for a dog to be registered 12-18 months after birth and be given a much higher registration number than the rest of the littermates. That could have happened here making Haifa part of the 1937 litter, or, it could be the later number suggests he was born after 9/1937. We still have the mystery of the Akbar Of Kuhsan, Sonee of Kuhsan nd Souriya of Kuhsan littermates, their number sequence strongly suggests they were part of the 9/37 litter

KUHSAN KENNEL AND HISTORY OF THE BREED IN HAWAII
Recently (July 2017) we found the following newspaper snippet -
Honolulu Star-Advertiser 9th March 1947
by Arthur Zane
The two Afghans that come to Honolulu recently are not the first of the breed to come into the Territory. About 10 years ago, this writer (Arthur Zane) had the honor of importing the first Afghan, a young dog from the Kuhsan Kennels of Redwood City, California. Mrs Frank Baldwin of Puunene, Maui, saw our dog in quarantine, fell in love with the breed and imported another male from the same kennels, Pyramid Of Kuhsan. Pyramid ws an upstanding animal and did well at our local dog shows. His sire was the famous English champion, Garrymhor Yhenmghiz Kahn
