On September 21, 1942, Afzid Khan of Kingway ex Ch Uly Hazrat Of Kingway produced Salim of Kingway, a red dog (#A666325); a red dog with white markings Shei (#A662988) who went to Mrs Evelyn E Manly; a dark brown bitch with white on chest Shambu (#A705532) which went to Mrs Maodelia Lull and Near By Sabout of Isaqueena, a red dog (#A704751) which went to Mrs Clarence A Eggler

On page 2 Ms Goodman wrote "Then Mrs Porter acquired Khyra Of Kingway, a black bitch (#A422794) which came from a breeding by Laurence Peters of Tazi Of Beg Tute ex Saki Of Paghman, both imported by Peters.". We now also know now that the correct breeding for Jakhundnis of Kingway (see also page 2), so lets show the pedigree for Jakhundnis of Kingway

The first significant thing about the above is that Mrs Porter has now bred outside her traditional Prides Hill lines and incorporated the Laurence Peters Afghanistan import lines. Comes with these imports, potentially, new colors. It struck me that Jakhundnis' color of "gray" was unusual for the time. Also note there is a littermate to Jakhundnis in this pedigree - "Khadija", well mention "Khadija" more later

Things are gonna get even more complicated now. Khyra Of Kingway originally bred by Laurence Peters and sold to Mrs Porter of Kingway, was, sometime later transferred/sold to Miss Marjorie Walker of the "Far Away" kennels. Thats your first clue to where this particular thread is heading. - Far Away Afghan Hounds were part of the foundation of Sunny Shay's Grandeur kennel. Marjorie Walker bred Khyra Of Kingway to her Far Away stud dogs and an abundance of "black" colored offspring ensued. A couple of generations back in Marjorie Walker's breeding she has Tazi of Beg Tute and Saki Of Paghman (Khyra's parents) and a history of producing blacks. Blacks were likely to be expected noting that Khyra's Tazi/Saki parentage reinforces the same lineage in Marjorie Walkers earlier breedings.

Staying with Khyra Of Kingway, consider the pedigree below

Pedigree of LONGLESSON EBON and LONGLESSON LAUREL

You will note that Khyra is behind the Longlesson foundation bitch Bela Kirschna of Longlesson. So you can see that the litter that confused us involving Jakhundnis of Kingway and littermate "Khadija" turned out to be a very important breeding because Khadija became significant in the development of the Longlesson kennels of Mr & Mrs Louis H & Swayze (Longlesson)

Not only do we now have the colour Gray and a prepondence of Black in the Far Away kennel behind these Longlesson lines. It also so heppens that Am Ch Jester of Longlesson, the sire of the above liter was.... Black, and Jester produced a lot of blacks (and creams)
