KENNEL/BREEDER HISTORY
DUREIGH (USA)
Page 3

Afghan Hound Times photo = Reigh Abram (Dureigh) c 1980

Reigh states "We bred to Khalife of Grandeur because he was a beautiful Afghan. He was like Sunny Shay's old-time Afghans, like Silver Pearl and Blue Pearl. We bred a beautiful Swan Song daughter out of a bitch that was out of Golden Harvest. She had a beautiful head and was just a beautiful bitch, but it didn't work out for us, and it didn't work on down into the second, third and fourth generation. We still lost our heads. We didn't maintain OUR heads, and we didn't get Khalife's head.

Reigh continues- "When we bred to Infashia, it was entirely different. Unfortunately we lost the whole litter except two, and we lost a bitch when she was two years old. They were all blues except Sharike and we lost all of the blue puppies with restricted esophagi. We felt we got beautiful heads on all the puppies and the better part of Grandeur and the better part of Dureigh. It was unfortunate we were unable to save them.

We then bred Ch Dureigh's Dragon Shadow who belonged to Mary Khol, to Infashia which produced a litter of 6, all blacks. Xzora's Charisma V Cathay, Xzora's Dark Moon, Xzora's Dark Shadow, Xzora's Dark Victory, Xzora's The Phanton, and Dureigh Shadow of The Dragon

With a breeding history starting in the early 1940's and extending into the 1980's there are a lot of Afghan Hounds to consider, and a lot of changes within the Dureigh breeding program. We perhaps can't cover the entirity of that period in sufficient detail otherwise we would bury the reader in hundreds of pedigrees. We hope we have given a good outline of the origins of Dureigh and the development through the era's.

We think the final pedigree below of Am Can Ch Dureigh's Afta Dark is a good example of what Reigh talked about - linebreeding with a combination of Dureigh foundations and old Grandeur foundations at the roots of the pedigree.

We'll give the great lady the last word on the subject of Dureigh - In answer to how many litters Dureigh bred over the years, Reigh responded "Maybe 40.". When asked which of the dogs she owned did she consider to be her ideal, Reigh responded "As far as I'm concerned Ch Winstons Windsong Of Dureigh, but the consensus of breeders was Dragons Lady". Below are photographs of both Afghans.
