SALUKI HERITAGE (Page4)

Meanwhile, to further establish her line, Tabitha was mated to Rufus of Daxlore, a brother to Rebecca. Rufus was also mated to Sari of Daxlore, a daughter of Tabitha and to his mother's half-sister, Candida.

"MY BEST SALUKI"

For her first litter Alexandra was bred to her brother Alexis and produced Champion Seamist of Daxlore. For her second litter she was bred to Champion Tahawi Euripides and produced Wildrose of Daxlore, who became a Champion before the age of eighteen months. Also in the litter was Wild Goose of Daxlore who was exported to America where he became a Champion at only nine months.

Seamist was also mated to Champion Tahawi Euripides, and from this litter came the Champions Skybelle and Skyrocket of Daxlore, the latter owned by Mrs Burgess.

Mrs Skelton-Fortune describes Skybelle as "structurally my best Saluki", she was also probably her most famous. Many judges obviously agreed, for she won 29 CCs, seven Hound Groups, Reserve BIS at the Birmingham National Centenary Show, Reserve BIS at Richmond and one year she was 'Top Hound' and runner up the following year. Skybelle was bred to Starflight Adonis and Mrs Skelton-Fortune kept the cream bitch, Starbelle of Daxlore. Starbelle was the last Saluki Mrs Skelton-Fortune exhibited. At Manchester in 1978, under judge Bill Burrow, she won her third Challenge Certificate, the Hound Group under Bill Pinches and then Reserve BIS under Walter Bradshaw. She was then retired from the ring and Mrs Skelton-Fortune retired as an exhibitor. Coincidentaly, Bill Burrow had also awarded Rebecca, Mrs Skelton-Fortune's first Champion, her first CC several years previously. Mrs Skelton-Fortune has bred about 50 Saluki litters. Of the British Champions I have not already mentioned there was Mr Hill's Wildspray of Daxlore, a son of Wildrose and Mrs Knott's Rose Emblem of Daxlore.
