SALUKI HERITAGE (Page3)
The first Daxlore Saluki litter was bred in 1954 from a bitch, called Windswift Tabitha, owned by Eileen's son. Mated to Burydown Uki she produced the first Champion Sovereign of Daxlore, predictably a beautiful, warm cream coloured dog.
Both Beelzebub and Candida were also by Uki, a German import bred by Mr Creighton, who brought him, his brother and their dam, Ganetti Von Arabien, back during the Air Lift of the
Second World War.
Of Mrs Skelton-Fortune's original pair, Candida was the first to be bred from and mated to Mazuri Kiraben which produced Marathon of Daxlore, a black and white particoloured dog. This dog as well as becoming one of the greatest characters his owner has known, also became an outstanding stud dog.

Beelzebub was mated to Champion Knightellington Vandal and from this breeding came Champion Rebecca of Daxlore. In 1959 Marathon and Rebecca were bred together and Mrs Skelton-Fortune kept Alexandra and Alexis of Daxlore from the resulting litter, both of whom became champions. Alexandra became one of the most famous of Mrs Skelton-Fortune's dogs - she describes her as being her "most glamorous" dog. It was a high accolade when the American Kennel Club used a photograph of her to illustrate the breed in one of their publications. Rebecca was only ever mated to Marathon and from the second litter came Champion Borisof Daxlore, who was owned by Mrs Parkhouse.
