The next hound we will mention is Khanhasset Kush Of Five Mile , not bred by or bred from by Marion. Kush was bred by Leah McConaha (Khanhasset) - Ali Khyber x Far Away Loo, whelped 2/3/44. Kush is perhaps more well known as a stud dog used by Sunny Shay (Grandeur) who used Kush in 1945 and 1948. A dog from Sunny;s 1945 litter - Mustapha of Grandeur was one of the two first Afghan hounds registered in Argentina Just to complete this little diversion with Grandeur, Sunny owned the littermate Khanhasset Ginger Of Grandeur and who was an important stud for Grandeur (sire of Blue Boy and several other important Grandeurs)..
Photo above shows Yenghiz Khan of Five Mile, handled by W J Adair of Northbrook Illinois on 24 July 1944 at the Sandemac KC show in Decatur Illinoi where Yenghiz Khan went BIS over 255 other exhibits. The second Five Mile litter whelped 8/10/1944 and involved the breeding of Yenghiz-Khan Of Five Mile x Shireen Of Ainsdart. ( Another little diversion/story here. Ainsdart is the kennel name of Mrs Morris-Cole in England. She bred Badshah of Ainsdart who was exported to Prides Hill kennel in Connecticut and litter brother Tufan of Ainsdart who was exported to Amelia White, Kandahar, New Mexico. But Shireen of Ainsdart is nothing to do with Mrs Morris-Cole. Shireen of Ainsdart was bred by Q A Shaw McKean at Prides Hill (Badshah Of Ainsdart x Shireen Of Prides Hill), whelped 19/7/1939. So a second mystery is why Shireen of Ainsdart carried the Ainsdart affix and not Prides Hill? The first owner appears to have been Eleanor Coolidge Chapman who we believe came from Massachusets and was living in New York in 1940 according to the 1940 census. Maybe Mrs Chapman had plans to become an Afghan hound breeder and had chosen the name Ainsdart for her kennel and Shaw Mckean (Prides Hill) duly registered the hound with the name Ainsdart rather than Prides Hill. That's all just a guess on our part. We have no further Afghan hound records bearing Mrs Chapmans name).
On 16th November 1944 a litter was born, sired by Rana Of Chaman Of Royal Irish, (Rana Of Chaman Of Royal Irish x Biechler's Lady) the breeder was Mrs George A Clark (Klaraf). All the littermates names included "of Five Mile", but none in this litter were owned or bred by Marion. (in those days it was quite common for the owner of the stud dog to request/insist that their affix be added to the name of dogs in a litter sired by their stud dog). Marion acquired the dog El Mio Zabu Of Five Mile (Rudiki Of Prides Hill x Kerrin Fachamis, bred Joseph De Cola, El Mio) ) and the bitch Rea (Badshah Of Ainsdart x Shireen Of Prides Hill, bred by Q A Shaw Mckean, Prides Hill) and bred a litter from this pair which whelped 11 NOV 1944. Time for some more trivia. In the above mentioned litter out of Yenghiz Khan of Five Mile, all the offspring hat the word ":Khan's as part of their name, Example -- Khan's Hassid Of Five Mile). In the El Mio Zabue of Five Mile litter all the littermates had the name Zabu's as part of their name, example Zabu's Hassid Of Five Mile. Apparently at this time , Marion would use the name of her stud dog as the first part of the offsprings name. Almost confused us at first as we were looking to see who owned Khan's and Zabu's kennels LOL.
Sometime after 1939 Shireen Of Ainsdart became the property of Marion and she used her Rudiki of Prides Hill with Shireen which produced a litter whelped on 28/8/1945, pedigree below
The first thing we notice about this breeding is that it appears to be a brother-sister mating. In fact Rudiki of Prides Hill and Shireen Of Prides hill are not littermates, Rudiki was born two years earlier. Shireen was a product of a later (repeat) mating. The littermates in this litter included: - Bey Bombay Of Five Mile (bitch) Casanova Of Five Mile (dog) Five Mile Badshah of Rebel Hill (dog) Sazad Sultan of Five Mile (dog) Bey Bombay Of Five Mile went to Reigh and Dewey Abram (Dureigh). This is what Reigh wrote about Bey Bombay - " Reigh credits Marion Foster Florsheim as giving her type, elegance, temperament and was the greatest influence in the Dureigh breeding program."
