AFGHAN HOUND BREED HISTORY
FRANCE

(By Steve Tillotson August 2016)
http://www.afghanhoundtimes.com France breed history. Afghan hound 1935
Paris 1935

As mentioned on page 1, the pedigree origins of the French afghan hound started with the two UK imports Azure Talib and Nalina of Enriallic imported by Marguerite Bourcey "(Original" kennel). From Marguerite Bourcey's early breedings other French breeders obtained their foundation stock. From these Original kennel bloodlines came a particularly important breeding by another founding French breeder - M L Fayolle (du Chateau de Roches) who used the dog Original Nao on his UK bred bitch Nadhia of Pushtikuh. The resultant litter whelped in 1943 and produced the famous and important brood bitch Rashna du Chateau de Roches. The back pedigree involves a blend of Ghazni, Bell Murray, Shahzada and Afroz. M L Fayolle also imported from the UK Garrymhor Yuvraj who he mated with his UK imported bitch Nadhia of Pushtikuh which produced the bitch Natasha Du Chateau De Roches. Natasha produced four litters for M L Fayolle sired by his Dutch import dog Dynast van de Oranje Manege, Natasha also produced a litter out of the French bred Original Nao. Several of Natasha's offspring were exported to Switzerland and Germany thus extending French bloodlines into those countries.

Rashna du Chateau de Roches was obtained by Miss Eta Pauptit of vDOM fame in the Netherlands. Eta's foundation bitch was the Irish import Aruna Of Enriallic (Asman Of Ghazni x Chimoso Of Enriallic) whelped in 1937. As Eta developed her breeding program, she moved away from blended lines and majored on Ghazni bloodlines. Eta is on record as stating her preference for the mountain type Ghazni hounds.

Because of Eta's stated preference, we find it interesting that she obtained Rashna who's pedigree involves multiple blended lines. Amongst those blended lines, one of the ancestors in Rashna's pedigree is Nalini Of Enriallic (born 1935) which was an earlier mating of Asman Of Ghazni x Chimoso Of Enriallic - the same breeding as Eta's foundation bitch Aruna Of Enriallic (born 1937).
