7. First Afghan hound registered in Canada

When Mrs Constance Corbet of New Brunswick imported the fawn dog, Ramy, from the USA, he became the first Afghan hound registered in Canada. Ramy was whelped on 5/14/35 out of Zahera Of Prides Hill (Westmill Omar x Asra Of Ghazni, both US imports from UK). Bred by Quincy A Shaw McKeanm, Ramy had been owned by Margaret Nison. Mrs Corbet exhibited him in Canada and he won three Hound Groups before he was acquired by the Ku Kennels of Mrs Viola Fielden. Ramy's offspring played an important role in later Canadian history, as well as that of the United States. The second Afghan hound listed with the CKC during the same year was Ramy's litter brother, Menelek. He also was purchased from Margaret Nison, but was owned by R.J.Brown of Quebec.

An American-owned Afghan hound was the third to be registered after he won his Canadian title of Champion. He was the visiting male Am Ch Barberryhill Charlie, whelped 5/13/34 bred by Bayard Warren who had obtained the dam, Illusive, from the very first litter at Prides Hill. Charlie was shown on the west coast of Canada and always defeated another visiting champion, the imported Garrymhor Kishtwar (Tash Garift Of Pushtikuh/Roshanara El Kabul).

The same year, another visitor from the states, Am Ch Barberryhill Dolly (a litter sister to Barberryhill Charlie also made the rounds of the Canadian shows. Dolly, owned by Mrs Venita Vardon Oakie of Oakvardon in California did not complete her title in Canada and was not registered by the CKC. However Dolly became the first bitch of the breed to win a Hound Grup there.
