Afghan Hound Paintings and Ilustrations by Arthur Wardle c 1930's
Arthur Wardle is probably the most famous of the artists who painted or illustrated The Afghan Hound. Above are shown three of his famous works.
The picture on the left was issued as a card/premium in 1940 by John Player & Sons (cigarettes), number 1 in an issue of 50 cards series entitled "Dog Heads"
Arthur Wardle (1864 - 1949) was not only the most famous canine illustrator of his time, but also illustrated the most famous breed books and encyclopedias of the day. The volume of Wardle’s paintings reproduced on collectible cigarette cards alone, totaled approximately 250.
