BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB OF AMERICA - BEST JUNIOR REPORT
By Taylor Rosling
If you have never won Best Junior Handler at a dog show, I must tell you, it’s probably one of the best feelings I have ever felt! So winning Best Junior Handler at the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America’s National Specialty in Portland, Oregon made me feel on top of the world! All the juniors were really great handlers, so when I went into the ring I had no expectations of winning. Shortly before I went in I was offered some of the best advice, I was told “You are going into the ring with a dog you love and no one will ever love that dog more than you, so just go indo your best and have fun!” Once in the ring I focused on nothing but my dog and making him look the best I could. I remember shaking and trying to place every foot perfectly, then I remembered that the reason I show dogs is because I love the teamwork, the bond it creates with my dog! So I cleared my mind the best I could and focused on having fun with my dog. I believe I handled better once I did that than I ever had before. Honestly, the ribbon could have gone to anyone of us out there, that day it was my day and I suppose tomorrow it could be anyone else’s. The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America offered wonderful education classes building up to the competition and I would tell any junior going to their National, attend every class you can – even if is seems basic, I learned something from every one that I attended from both the instructors as well as the other juniors!
Sincerely,
Taylor Rosling
