THE AFGHAN HOUNDS

The earliest record we find for the Baroness's involvement in Afghan hounds begins in 1952 when she obtained the grey dog Vaz's Grey Gregor (Maximus Leo Of Grandeur x Foulata Ivy's Va , whelped 17 February 1952 , breeder James O Dobrodzek)

Vaz's Grey Gregor

In 1954 Baroness Hilda bred her dog Gregor to the bitch Eline Von Wassenaar who was bred in Austria by J J Wagener and exported to the USA where she was owned by Mr & Mrs Earl & Esther Pinney. This is an interesting breeding in that the Baroness bred her Grandeur lineage dog to the Dutch lineage of Van De Oranje Manege (behind the Wassenaar bitch Eline) . This breeding occured shortly after Kay Finch had imported Ophaal of Crown Crest/vDOM, so the Baroness was pretty much on the leading edge of breeding to the imported Dutch vDOM lines.

KORA from this 1954 breeding was obtained by Karen & Julian Armistead.( We remember with great affection the late Karen Armistead who managed the AHCA library and breed history archives for so many years).

KORA (Vaz's Grey Gregor x Eline Von Wassenaa)


Kora's litter sister Pinky was mated with Crown Crest Rubi and Pinky produced a litter in January 1958. There were three offspring (at least) but we only know the names of two of them - Pinky litter 1958

The final breeding we find for Ellis Farm involved (Kora's King David x Violetta of Ellis Farm) in 1965. Kora's King David was a son of Karen Armitages "Kora" mentioned above. We are aware of three from this final Ellis Farm litter, Pasha a dog, and his sisters Belinda and Luna. While this is the end of Elli Farm breeding, siblings in this last litter were bred from by their new owners and continued the line for a little bit longer
