Pat's involvement with the purebred dog fancy has been since birth. Her parents bred, showed, and hunted with AKC Wire Fox Terriers, along with Mini and Standard Poodles. Pat was showing dogs in AKC events starting as a young child. Pat at relocated to Canada in 1984. She continued to participate in AKC, Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), and International events as a breeder and exhibitor of champion Borzois, Salukis, and Boxers, and as an all-breed professional handler. Pat has many BIS, BISS, and Group wins to her credit. Pat also was a professional groomer for over 25 years.
Pat taught conformation handling for 4-H and various kennel clubs. In 1977, she had the honor of judging the 4-H Finals at the New York State Fair. She continues to teach junior showmanship and conformation handling.
Pat has written for the dog press since 1974. Pat and her husband Ed are winners of the Dog Writers' Assoc. of America Ottawa Kennel Club/Bob Cole Special Award, 2007. Pat served as the AKC Gazette, Afghan Hound Club of America's columnist.
Pat was also the Hound Group Director for the Los Angeles Dog Judges Educational Association (LADJEA).
Pat is an approved (2004) AKC Junior Showmanship judge. She is AKC approved (2005) for Afghan Hounds, Basset Hounds, Borzois, Dachshunds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Salukis. She is AKC provisional for the Hound breeds of Bloodhounds, Ibizan Hounds, Irish Wolfhounds, Pharaoh Hounds, Scottish Deerhounds, and Whippets, Non-Sporting Norwegian Lundehunds, and the Working breeds of Cane Corso and Dogue de Bordeaux.
She is a (1996) CKC Hound Group judge including Drever, Finnish Spitz, Norwegian Lundehund and Shikoku. She is also a Toy Group, all three Poodle Varieties, both American Eskimo Dogs Varieties, and both Xoloitzcuintli Varieties judge. She is on CKC permit for the Working breeds; Alaskan Malamutes, Anatolian Shepherd Dogs, Akitas, Bullmastiffs, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Boxers, Canadian Eskimo Dogs, Canaan Dogs, Cani Corsi, Doberman Pinschers, Entlebucher Mountain Dogs, Eurasiers, Great Danes, Greenland Dogs, Great Pyrenees, and Hovawart.
Pat has judged in the United States, Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Korea.
She has done educational programs on grooming and handling in the United States, Canada, and the Republic of Korea. She has also done presentations on Sighthounds.
Pat is conversationally multilingual in English, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese which is an asset to international presentations.
Pat was co-editor with Ed Gilbert of Topknot News for the Afghan Hound Club of America. They currently are co-editors of Gilberts' K-9 Seminars News and Review.
Pat is a member of the Afghan Hound Club of America (AHCA), Life Member of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), Canadian Dog Judges Assoc. (CDJA), Senior Conformation Judges Assoc.(SCJA), Dog Judges Assoc. of America (DJAA), Take the Lead (Lifetime Member), Dog Writers Assoc. of America (DWAA), Dog Legislation Council of Canada (DLCC), President's Council of AKC/Canine Health Foundation (AKC/CHF), Founding Member of AKC Humane Fund, and a member of National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA).
The combination of Ed's and Pat's backgrounds provides a unique and broad range perspective in regard to the evaluation of purebred dogs and their exhibition.
