Steve Tillotson, April 1996 updated 2011, 2013, 2017 1927 - 1940 The earliest reference I have (but there may be earlier information) is in 1927 when Champaka De Flandre, bitch, bred by Mrs M B Cooper of the UK's de Flandre kennels was imported by Mrs J M Liessse-Terstall. The breeding being Mustavfi of Ghazni and Cupra (Bell Murray). An interesting aside - the de Flandre (non English sounding name for an English kennel!) kennels bred several litters, usually a Ghazni/Bell Murray mating, but none of the Afghans are to be found in English pedigrees. To the best of my knowledge, the above de Flandre Afghan is the only one from that kennel that figures in the breed history and I have no records of breeding from this one in Holland. To complete this diversion, late in the 1920's Mrs Cooper advertised stock for sale, adding "no reasonable offer refused, as I am only keeping red afghans" - I presume this reference to "red" Afghans is a reference to Ghazni type. To close the de Flandre story, Mrs Cooper also was the breeder of Mumti Of Geufron which is the dam of Omar of Geufron who produced 7 Geuffron champions, so de Flandre is important, if oft overlooked as such. The next several champions up to 1935 were a Ghazni import (ownd by G E W Jungling), and a number of Barukhzy Afghans (Han Jungeling), we'll cover Barakhzy under Belgium. In 1936 the UK import Westmill Sikara out of Westmill Tamasar and Shahin Of Ghazni became a champion. Bred by Mrs Wood (UK Westmill), owned by M M Wilson (An English lady residing in Holland?), and was a breeding of Ghazni/Bell Murray sire x a Ghazni dam. In 1939 Malik I Nukidar, pure Ghazni via Baber Of Baberbagh x Barukhzys Mahaprajapati became a champion. owned by J P Ouwerling and bred by N A Henrard. Also in 1939 Aruna Of Enriallic, three quarters Ghazni but with lines to Bell Murray and Shahzada/Afroz became a champion. Imported by Eta Pauptit from Ireland , bred by Daniel Cronin of Enriallic Afghans. In a letter to "Afghan International" around 1970 Eta Pauptit wrote "Born in 1913 I was young enough and also old enough to appreciate Mrs Amps imports and so I got a puppy from their first offspring here in Holland". I presume this to be Barukhzys Khan, born in October 1930, the second ever Barukhzy litter (the first Barahkzy litter was pure Bell Murray breeding). Miss Pauptit, her kennel name was Van De Oranje Manege (VDOM), used Khan on Aruna to produce the first VDOM litter in October 1938 This first VDOM litter contained Achmed Sjach VDOM, dog, who was absolutely pivotal in the development of this kennel, siring 10 VDOM litters in the four years 1942-46, (as well as his external stud work), more on Achmed later.. There is a debate about "pureness" of Barukhzy and Vdom lines, this will be discussed as we continue to unfold the Belgian and Holland histories. So to get in early, here follows the pedigree details behind Rupee and Souriya of Enriallic in the above pedigree;

I only have partial reords on the history of Afghan Hounds in Holland, if anybody has additional information this would be gratefully received. By now, (1940), Europe was at war and this must have had an impact on exchange of bloodlines on the continent, it certainly impacted/curtailed breeding severely in the UK. However, breeding did continue and the Afghan Hound in Holland consolidated and developed over the next decade. 1940 Onwards - to be continued (***AHT Note - we originally started this section way back in April 1996.
