BERNESE MOUNTAIN DOG CLUB 2009 NATIONAL SPECIALTY – JUNIORS
As the Junior Showmanship Activities Chair of the 2009 BMDCA National Specialty, I am seeking your incredible help and support! Our junior handlers of today are our upcoming representatives, the ones who will sustain both the sport of dog events as well as the Bernese Mountain Dog as we know them today, in the future! Our juniors need our support and guidance NOW!
The BMDCA National Specialty April 27 to May 2, 2009 in Portland, OR. Junior judging will be on Friday, May 1, 2009
Many of us have had experience in the Junior Showmanship ring, or have had a junior who has competed there and some us now even judge the juniors! I know it is a huge pleasure for me to sit outside a ring where a junior is competing with a huge grin on my face as I watch their face, knowing that they are there for the love of the their dog and the sport of it, not just the competitive nature of it! Regardless of your experience in juniors, we all know how important these youngsters are to our future! Think of the last dog show you watched on TV, seeing a top handler and thinking "oh, I remember her/him when she/he was ‘knee high to a grasshopper', in the ring for the first time, now look at where she/he is at!
The support you lend today to the juniors events at the National Specialty is not counted in dollars and cents but in the "spirit of the dog sports and junior showmanship", however, your donation of dollars makes sense and is what allows the show committee to continue to offer such a fabulous array of prizes and encouragement for our juniors. The trophy donations that are needed are listed below, in addition to the listed junior showmanship trophies, there is also an array of other trophies in need of donations, please contact Kathy Deyo at the below address, if you are interested in donating a trophy for a different class or event.
Additionally, we are scheduling several other junior activities and are in need of donations for items to be included in their participation packages for such events.
Juniors are so often (unintentionally) an afterthought in the grand scheme of an event, we are all so busy and have so much going on that it can sometimes be, just one more thing to do... for the juniors it is what they are there for! These events cost a lot of money for everyone, and every dime adds up. My goal is to be able to gather enough donations that we may offer items that are useful to the juniors, things that will excite the juniors such as their "own" brush or comb, or grooming supplies or a show lead! Items that perhaps they would not be able to afford on their own! If you would be interested in making a donation of either specific items or a monetary donation toward those activities, please drop me a line and I can let you know what I am looking for.
Warmly,
Amy Johnson
